Lizzie Widdicombe '01, from the New Yorker, visits St. Mary's
Lizzie Widdicombe '01 visited campus this week as our 2017 Louise T. Archer Artist in Residence. She is a Talk of the Town editor at The New Yorker where she has been on staff since 2006. Lizzie led workshops for our girls on writing and creative storytelling as well as led a conversation with our Junior girls on the moral obligations of friendship, as seen in the relationship between Brutus and Julius Caesar.
Lizzie has written over a hundred Talk of the Town stories, as well as feature stories on subjects including tech startups, the fashion designer Jeremy Scott, and pop star Taylor Swift. As an undergraduate at Harvard University, she was on staff at the Lampoon and Harvard Magazines.
The residency was made possible through the generosity of alumna Louise T. Archer '40, who made a bequest to the school, and her daughters, Nell Archer '79 and Louise Archer Slater '67. The residency brings a nationally recognized artist to St. Mary's each year. One of our goals is that every student will have the opportunity to interact with the artist, whether through a class, demonstration, gallery talk or master class.
