Welcome to St. Mary's
Dear St. Mary’s Friend:
Welcome to the website for St. Mary’s Episcopal School, one of the most outstanding girls' schools in the country. St. Mary’s represents the very best in girls' education where students have the opportunity to learn in a unique environment that combines the pursuit of excellence in all areas, the nurture and guidance of gifted teachers, and an Episcopal community that encourages spiritual and moral development.
As a licensed professional counselor and long-time independent school educator, I am convinced of the benefits of single-sex education. Having been in some of the best schools in the country, I have had the opportunity to witness the subtle teaching differences and bold leadership initiatives that define excellent girls' schools. At St. Mary’s, teachers employ the very best teaching strategies for educating young women and providing students with abundant opportunities to build confidence, as well as important life skills.
Our faculty is multi-talented, well educated, and dedicated to enabling each student to reach her individual potential. With our low faculty-student ratio, teachers are able to guide students in the acquisition of academic skills within a liberal arts framework that promotes communication and decision-making skills, creative and independent thinking, and critical judgment. St. Mary’s students are given an education that prepares them for college and successful lives. Graduates go on to the top colleges in the country and continue into professional schools and successful lives.
As an Episcopal School, St. Mary’s embraces the spiritual dimension of learning that values both faith and reason. Our student body is comprised of girls from a variety of religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. Through regular school worship, religious studies, and community service, students learn to respect and honor the unique worth and value of all human beings. In this community, honor and trust are further embraced through a strong honor system that cultivates trust and self-discipline.
St. Mary’s is a community of abundant opportunity both in and out of the classroom. Through regular chapel services, character education, and community service, our students develop respect for others and the world around them. In addition, sports offer a variety of opportunities for students including swimming and golf, as well as traditional team sports. The visual and performing arts at St. Mary’s have been strong for decades and are practiced in state-of-the-art facilities. Community service is another important element of the St. Mary’s experience for girls in all grades.
The faculty joins me in welcoming you to our campus where girls always come first!
Sincerely,

Marlene R. Shaw
Head of School
