Lower School
The Lower School years are special for girls in grades one through four. What a wonderful time this is in the life of a child! She is old enough to appreciate the challenge of learning as she develops independence and responsibility, yet young enough to retain the innocence, trust and wonder of childhood. Our faculty values the joys of childhood, and honors this time by their commitment to make these years productive and memorable for your daughter. Our primary goal is to provide a rich educational experience and environment where each girl can become a competent, confident, and caring child.
Our academic program in Lower School is designed to provide each child with a challenging and developmentally appropriate learning experience. Skilled and dedicated teachers use a myriad of teaching strategies based on current brain studies and research analyzing how girls learn best. These methods capture the natural curiosity of children and include hands-on activities, cooperative group work, open-ended questions, and various problem-solving activities that promote analytical and critical thinking.
The core curriculum, taught by the homeroom teachers, includes reading, writing, spelling, listening, speaking, mathematics, and social studies. Our rich and varied special subject classes are designed to develop your daughter’s many talents, skills, and interests. She will study art, ballet, music, foreign languages, and Bible, and develop proficiency in technology and physical education. Our curriculum is interdisciplinary and values collaboration among both students and teachers.
Small class sizes of girls provide the extra time and attention needed for the basic skills and enrichment. Two learning specialists also allow us to further individualize and carefully monitor the program and progress of each child.
In addition to the academic, aesthetic, physical, and social-emotional development of each child, we believe that spiritual and moral development are an integral part of our commitment to the education of the whole child. A weekly chapel and a Bible class geared to young children are coordinated with the Character Education program. The goals of this program are to nurture and promote moral and ethical behavior, and to teach children to use universal values, such as, respect, responsibility, kindness, self-control, thankfulness, courage, honesty, and cooperation as their compass and for decision-making.
Lower School is a place where your child can learn, play, pray, and laugh --a place where she can thrive!
