St. Mary's is excited to announce our third college signing this week! Senior Kiara Norris signed her letter of intent to swim for Fordham University today. Kiara has been a dedicated swimmer for years and first learned to swim at the age of three while in preschool and summer camp at the Memphis Jewish Community Center (MJCC). She began swimming competitively at age five on the MJCC's Blue Dolphins swim team. Kiara has received multiple awards as a swimmer and as part of the St. Mary's swim team she has received the following: Freshman Most Valuable Award, Sophomore Most Valuable Award, Junior Captain and Most Valuable Award, and
She is not only a super star in the pool but also puts forth the same dedication and commitment as a student. Kiara is Senior Class President, a member of Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, National Beta Club, M Club, Mandarin Chinese Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society; Chinese Club Vice-President 2017, and Mu Alpha Theta President 2018.
We are proud to announce that Lauren Mabie '18 signed her letter of intent Thursday to swim for Texas Christian University! Lauren has been swimming since she was ten years old and has set multiple records along the way. She set the record in the 100 IM as a sophomore, anchored the 400 free relay to its best State finish ever and has been a Best of Preps nominee or finalist all through high school. Lauren was part of the record breaking, gold medal, 200 medley relay team for State and the silver medalist in the 100 breaststroke. She made history for St. Mary's with her second place finish at the State Championship. Wishing you much success as you join TCU Athletics next fall!
St. Mary's senior Evelyn Roberts '18 signed her letter of intent today to play lacrosse for the University of Richmond. Evelyn has played St. Mary's lacrosse since 7th grade. She has been named as an All-Region lacrosse player since the 8th grade, made All-State the last 3 years, and the last 2 years has been an All-American. Evelyn has always played mid-field, a position that requires her to do it all. She is offense, defense, transition – fast, smart, strong, and enduring. Her stats are amazing across the board. During the last four years, she has compiled 162 goals, 107 assists, 262 draw controls, 255 ground balls, and has caused 59 turnovers.
Evelyn is a leader on and off the field as a Student Ambassador and a member of the National Beta Club, National French Honor Society, and the M Club. Congratulations, Evelyn, we wish you all the best!
Success continues this fall in Middle School athletics with four Shelby League Championships in: cross country, soccer, seventh grade volleyball, and eighth grade volleyball.
Over 75% of Middle and Upper School girls compete in sports, many of those athletes competing on more than one team. St. Mary's has captured city, state, division, and regional titles and had 20 athletes recognized by The Commercial Appeal's 2016-17 All Metro Team. Eight out of 13 Middle School teams placed first or second in Shelby League championships in 2016-17.
Our winter season recently began with basketball, swimming, fencing, and bowling.
Our middle school athletic program had a fantastic year. Out of the 12 leagues that end in with a tournament, we won 5 championships and had 3 runner up finishes. Championships were in 7th grade volleyball, 8th grade volleyball, 7th grade basketball, track, and also lacrosse. Our runner up finishes were in soccer, tennis, and 8th grade basketball. We also finished 3rd in cross country, 4th in golf, and 4th in swimming!
