St. Mary's Welcomes New Faculty and Staff Members

Noel Brown
Noel is returning to St. Mary’s to teach Senior Kindergarten. Noel was a member of the St. Mary’s community from 1999-2005, serving as Lower School Technology Coordinator and PK /Extended Day teacher. She has spent the last three years teaching Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten at St. George’s Independent School. Noel received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from College of Charleston.

The Reverend Katherine McQuiston Bush '93
Katherine, a 1993 graduate of St. Mary’s and former coordinator of Religious Education at St. Mary’s, returns to her alma mater as Chaplain. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in English at Rhodes College, Katherine taught at St. Mary’s for two years prior to leaving to attend Virginia Theological Seminary where she earned her Masters in Divinity. Upon moving back to Memphis, Katherine served as Canon for Outreach at St. Mary’s Cathedral, followed by her tenure as Associate Rector for Formation and Family Ministries at Church of the Holy Communion.

Gretchen Carstens
Gretchen, a newcomer to the Memphis area, is from Southgate, Kentucky. She is joining St. Mary’s as the Middle School Latin teacher and will also be coaching volleyball. For the past nine years, Gretchen has taught Middle School Latin at Seven Hills School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Gretchen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin Education from Berea College.

Angie Gardner
Angie is returning to the St. Mary’s community as Director of the Annual Fund. She worked as Director of Annual Fund and Alumnae Affairs from 1994 – 1995 and Director of Development at St. Mary’s from 1995 – 2006. For the past two years, she has been working in development at St. George’s Independent School. Angie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College where she majored in Business and Economics and received her Juris Doctor degree from Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, University of Memphis.

Joshua Hughes
Joshua will be joining the Upper School faculty as a Biology teacher. For the past three months, Joshua has been working as a pharmacy technician at Walgreens. Prior to that, he worked as a graduate assistant/teaching assistant at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Joshua completed his undergraduate work at Middle Tennessee State University with university honors. His major was Biology with a concentration in Physiology and a minor in Chemistry. He has been pursuing his Ph.D. in Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology.

Justin Nicholas
Justin, who will be teaching Upper School History, comes to St. Mary’s from Oakhaven Middle School where he taught seventh grade Social Studies. He graduated from the University of Mississippi where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Anthropology, graduating Summa Cum Laude and with a membership in Phi Beta Kappa. Presently, he is working towards his Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Memphis.

Kim Robison
Kim joins the St. Mary’s faculty as part-time Early Childhood Spanish teacher. Kim attended Louisiana Tech University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Foreign Language (Spanish). Prior to working at St. Mary’s, Kim was employed by ITT Corporation as Senior Marketing Analyst/Business Development-International. Kim has been a substitute teacher at St. Mary’s during the past year.

Carrie Ruhland
Carrie and her family have moved back to Memphis from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She and her daughter, Lila, will both be new additions to the St. Mary’s campus this year. Carrie will be joining the Lower School as third grade teacher and Lila as a first grade student. She comes to St. Mary’s from St. James Episcopal Day School where she worked with second graders. Before going to Baton Rouge, Carrie taught at Evangelical Christian School as their technology coordinator working with K-5 and assisted in launching the ECS technology program. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Memphis.

Susan Whitten Snodgrass '86
Susan is returning to her alma mater after working the last five years at Facing History and Ourselves. Susan taught Middle School Social Studies and Religious Studies at St. Mary’s from 1993-2005. Upon returning to St. Mary’s, Susan will be the Assistant Chaplain and Religion teacher. Susan received a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and her Master of Science in Educational Psychology from the University of Memphis. In addition, Susan has had extensive coursework in religion.

Leigh Tucker
Leigh will be joining her daughters, Ellie and Mary Thomas, on the north campus this year. She will be the Early Childhood Learning Specialist. Leigh comes to St. Mary’s from Tunica Institute of Learning where she was the Preschool Coordinator/Lead Teacher. As coordinator/lead teacher, Leigh created and developed academic guidelines, policies, and procedures for the program. She attended The University of Mississippi where she earned her Bachelor of Arts and her Master’s in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Language Arts and Reading.

Allison Yant
The Lower School community will welcome Allison as a new addition to the faculty. She comes to St. Mary’s to teach fourth grade from Medlock Bridge Elementary School in Alpharetta, Georgia. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication at the University of South Alabama, Allison attended Spring Hill College where she was awarded her Master of Arts in Teaching Elementary Education. She has two daughters who are students at St. Mary’s, Lily in the eleventh grade and Bella, in Senior Kindergarten.
