Early Childhood Center Named for Shaw
Posted May 21, 2012
During a dinner celebrating Marlene Shaw's nine-year tenure as Head of School, Board of Trustees Chair Sarah Willmott Cowens '82 announced that the Early Childhood Center would be renamed to honor Shaw's service and dedication to St. Mary's.
As Head of School, Shaw was instrumental in bringing faculty salaries in line with those at Memphis City Schools, implementing a long-range strategic plan, increasing enrollment, and leading a $26-million capital campaign which funded the design and construction of the Early Childhood Center, Garrott Hall, and Windland Smith Rice Building. To honor her service to the school, Trustees unanimously voted to name the Early Childhood Center the Marlene R. Shaw Early Childhood Center.
Shaw retires on June 30, 2012.
