Upper School Student Life

St. Mary’s Episcopal School strives to provide and continually enhance a program of co-curricular activities including athletics, the arts, clubs, and student organizations, and community service.  Such a program teaches students to be responsible and fulfilled citizens of the School and the broader community in which they live; provides them with opportunities to develop character, social skills, critical thinking skills, teamwork, and cooperation; and helps to instill qualities of fairness and leadership in daily living.  These activities support and enhance the academic program and encourage the participants to grow and mature into responsible human beings.  St. Mary’s also encourages students to participate in extra-curricular activities that take place outside the school in order to pursue their special area of interests.

It is important that students maintain a balanced program of academics and co-curricular activities. Students should choose a variety of activities that reflect their interests and strengths, and they should gradually increase their responsibilities in each of these activities throughout their four years in the Upper School.  Colleges seek students who have held responsible leadership positions during their Upper School years.
