“I love seeing middle school students develop their confidence, overcome obstacles, become more self-aware, and find their voice as they enter Upper School,” said Andrea Peredo. As Middle School Counselor, Peredo says she loves being a resource for girls during a period of such rapid development.
“From the beginning of 6th grade through the end of 8th grade, I hope my students learn to advocate for themselves and use their strengths to manage their day-to-day wins and challenges,” said Peredo.
Peredo encourages students to approach challenges with a learning mindset.
“They can use mistakes as a learning moment to help build skills and become someone they are proud of,” Peredo said.
For Peredo, it is rewarding to see girls grow as both students and leaders throughout their middle school careers. As the sponsor for the 8th-grade student leadership team, Peredo helps the girls plan events for the middle school and serve as positive role models to other students.
“The leadership team plans events to foster connections among students, encourage fun and laughter, and empower students to make healthy choices,” said Peredo. “I love seeing how creative and intentional the girls are when planning activities for the middle school.”
A licensed clinical therapist, Peredo received her bachelor’s in social work from Harding University and her master’s in social work from the University of Tennessee. This is her fifth year at St. Mary’s.
