Student Represents Tennessee at Girls Nation

Lily Karnes ’24 recently participated in Girls State. This week-long camp, organized by the American Legion Auxiliary, occurred at Lipscomb University. While there, she helped construct a government from scratch and gained valuable insights into the significance of being an engaged citizen.

During the camp, Lily served as a senator and was elected Speaker of the Senate. She shared, “everyone there was so well-spoken, so it was really moving to actually have some civil discourse that didn’t devolve into fighting or hurt feelings.”

Later this summer, Lily will represent Tennessee at Girls Nation. She was one of two students selected to attend this program. They will travel to Washington, D.C., to present legislation, connect with each other, and speak with U.S. legislators and leaders. “I’m really excited to hear from others and see what other states value right now,” said Lily.

Congratulations to Lily on this huge honor! We know you will make the state of Tennessee proud.
