A New Chapter in Our Story: 2025 Founders’ Day Chapel

Honoring Mary McClintock Davis

Join us to celebrate St. Mary’s Episcopal School's 179-year legacy at the 2025 Founders' Day Chapel on Tuesday, September 16 at 9:30 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Communion.

The 2025 Founders' Day Chapel will honor Mary M. Davis, St. Mary’s first historian and a dedicated educator, leader, and alumnae advocate. Mary McClintock Davis served as Head of the Upper School from 1964 to 1979 and was Upper School Dean during the same period. She served twice as Acting Head of School, first from 1973–1974 following Nat Hughes’ departure, and again in 1981. Beyond her leadership roles, Mary continued to serve the school community in the Alumnae Office, as Alumnae News Editor, in the Development Office, and in the Archives.

Mary is the author of A Remarkable Journey 1847–1997: The Story of St. Mary’s Episcopal School, the first comprehensive history of St. Mary’s. Mary retired in 1998, leaving a lasting legacy of scholarship, service, and St. Mary’s spirit.

We hope you’ll join us for this special event. A reception will be held in Cheney Parish Hall after the Chapel.

Young Alumna & Light and Life Service Award Honorees

We are thrilled to announce Anna Peeler '13 and Laurin Maddux '98 as the 2025 Young Alumna Award and Light and Life Service Award honorees. They will be recognized for their outstanding commitment to service at this year's Founders' Day chapel on Sept. 16.

Anna Peeler ’13: 2025 Young Alumna Award Honoree

Driven by a deep commitment to service and health equity, Anna Peeler ’13, our 2025 recipient of the Young Alumna award, truly represents the selfless work of the Sisters of St. Mary’s. Just like Constance and her companions, Anna is dedicated to helping underresourced patients have access to the treatments and medicines they need through her work in palliative care.

Laurin Maddux ’98: 2025 Light & Life Service Award Honoree

As a lifelong member of the St. Mary’s community, Laurin Maddux ’98 embodies the school’s motto, “For Girls. For Life.” Her unwavering dedication to her alma mater and the broader community reflects a deep-rooted commitment to service, compassion, and connection. Whether supporting patients, walking alongside families in times of need at her church, or leading with quiet strength behind the scenes, Laurin is known as a trusted friend, thoughtful colleague, and caring professional.
