Fifth Graders Leave Their Mark on North Campus

fifth grade students and teacher

On their last day as Lower School students, the Class of 2032 took a bittersweet walk through St. Mary’s North Campus. It was a chance to remember their earliest Turkey days, as they paraded past old classrooms and beloved teachers.

The fifth grade class walked through the Early Childhood Center, where the halls were lined with wide-eyed little girls who have looked up to them all year long. With upbeat music blasting and farewell signs lifted high, the soon-to-be middle schoolers said one last goodbye to North Campus, where they’ve served as role models for all the other students.

Charlotte Fields ’32 has loved being a St. Mary’s girl in the Lower School and enjoyed seeing all of her amazing former teachers.

“The teachers are so supportive, and it feels so welcoming because I’ve been here a long time,” she said.

The tour ended at the front of Moss Hall, where the girls were greeted with a sweet surprise – Mrs. Ruhland’s candy cannon!

The girls made one final mark on the North Campus by signing the concrete floor of Moss Hall, which will reopen after renovations in August 2025. The signatures of the Class of 2032 will forever be a part of St. Mary’s North Campus history.

So many on the North Campus are sad to see these 44 girls move on. Dr. Marcisha Brazley-Keith, Head of Lower School, will miss their extraordinary kindness.

“Many of us have called them the ‘unicorn class’ because they are remarkably kind and loving in a way that stands out,” she said. “They effortlessly practice kindness to each other, the community, and the world. I know they are going to do amazing things in the world.”

Next year, as they advance to 6th grade, their lives will look different, but the Class of 2032 is excited for the next chapter at St. Mary’s.

Laurel Frazee ’32 can’t wait to be in the Middle School and participate in exciting, new traditions.

“I am excited about being with the older kids and being able to look up to them,” she said. “I’m also excited for the spirit days and our blue and white teams.”
