Reopening St. Mary's

We look forward to opening the 2020-2021 Academic Year in August, but we all must acknowledge that what lies ahead is a year unlike any of the 173 years of St. Mary's. We are adjusting plans weekly, if not daily, and we are committed to remaining as flexible and transparent as we can while we do so. To reopen successfully, our top priority must continue to be the safety and wellness of our students and their families, as well as our faculty and staff.

Please refer to each division's "Reopening St. Mary's" webpages linked below for further details.

We will start the year on campus unless there is a mandatory restriction to close and we plan to follow our current 2020-2021 School Calendar.

Health Protocols

PK-12th grade students are required to wear face coverings at all times while they are inside and transitioning to and from areas. Classrooms have been reconfigured to provide maximum spacing. Hand washing or hand sanitizer schedules will be followed in all classrooms and there will be no common water fountains. Health Centers on both campuses have added space for isolation of ill students.

Physical Distancing

Classrooms have been reconfigured to provide maximum spacing and common areas have been divided within grades with specific times to access lockers. Students will enter buildings using designated points of entry by grade. Dining hall use on both campuses will be limited and meals will be delivered to classrooms and designated spaces. Travel within buildings will be minimized and will be limited to smaller groups.

Parents & Guests

Parents and guests are allowed on campus and in buildings by appointment only. No parents or guests will be permitted to attend Chapel.

After3

After3 will be available for all girls starting on the first full day of school, Thursday, August 20. Girls will remain in their grade-level cohorts in After3.

Carpool & Dismissal

Each Division will provide drop-off and pick-up procedures. New carpool tags will be provided.

Cleaning & Sanitation

Students' belongings will be individually stored and shared technologies will be regularly disinfected. All frequently touched surfaces wiped down including restrooms, doorknobs, and banisters with an approved disinfectant periodically throughout the day. End-of-day cleaning will include an outside professional cleaning company wiping down with approved disinfectant all contact surfaces.

Events & Gatherings

Student events and gatherings are postponed or redesigned to allow for physical distancing. Chapel will continue in a combination of live Chapel with single cohorts and streaming to classrooms. All St. Mary’s special events are either postponed or redesigned to be online. We are not gathering groups of parents or guests on campus until further notice and there will be no field trips or group transportation.

Lunch

Dining hall use on both campuses will be limited and meals will be delivered to classrooms and designated spaces.

Outdoor Spaces

We will use outdoor learning spaces on both campuses as much as possible, and some classes may eat snack or lunch outside when weather permits.

Athletics

The athletic department is currently operating within the guidelines set forth by the TSSAA, Shelby League, and state and local governments.
