The mission of the St. Mary’s Athletic Program is to provide experiences that will encourage leadership qualities, develop skills, self-confidence, and sportsmanship in each student athlete. While allowing for the team’s success and healthy competition, each student athlete can reach her individual potential and develop lifetime skills that are integral to her future.

Under the umbrella of both our school mission statement and the athletic mission statement, it should be obvious that athletics is about education. Our student athletes are in a learning environment. The coach is a teacher first, and their facility is their classroom. We seek to maximize the potential of each student-athlete. To insure this goal, we will always “coach up” by providing positive reinforcement, maintaining high expectations, teaching fundamentals and modeling good sportsmanship. Above winning, interscholastic competition should be about how athletes handle themselves when they win and when they lose. Otherwise, the whole experience is missed. Many of life’s lessons are learned through the challenges and disciplines within a team’s atmosphere. Participating as a Turkey Athlete prepares our student athletes for life beyond the formal years of education.
