Sports
Building Strength, Skill, and Teamwork at Every Age
At St. Mary’s Episcopal School, we believe that sports are a vital part of developing well-rounded, confident young women. Our comprehensive athletics program offers a wide range of sports opportunities tailored to each school level—Lower, Middle, and Upper School.
Lower School Opportunities
The developmental athletic program encourages all St. Mary's girls to enjoy and explore new talents as they participate in recreational athletics. Lower School sports create an opportunity for students to engage in organized teams and learn the fundamentals of their sport.
Most Lower School sports are open to girls in 3rd-5th grades and the swim team is open to 1st-5th grade students. Athletic forms are required once a year for students who plan to participate.

Middle School Opportunities
In the Middle School athletic program, we strive to find a balance between continued development of the fundamentals and increased emphasis on competition. Focus is on sportsmanship, while learning the responsibility of being on a team.
Due to the popularity of Middle School Sports, some programs have roster limits and will have tryouts to determine who will make the team. There will always be one “no-cut” option per season.
All Middle School sports are open to girls in 6th-8th grades. Athletic forms are required once a year for students who plan to participate.

Upper School Opportunities
Skill, commitment, and maturity are the basis for our Upper School athletics program. Each girl’s skill level is re-evaluated at the beginning of the season to determine team membership. In Upper School, athletics are intended to be the culminating experience for the highly committed and skilled athlete.
All Upper School sports are open to girls in grades 9th-12th. Athletic forms are required once a year for students who plan to participate.
