Supporting Every Girl’s Journey

At St. Mary’s, we recognize that girls experience significant physical, cognitive, and emotional changes throughout their educational journeys. Our counseling program is designed to support each student during these transformative years, helping her navigate challenges and seize opportunities at every stage of development.

Our mission is to help each girl understand herself, build resilience, and develop the tools she needs to thrive personally, academically, and professionally. The St. Mary’s counseling team provides a safe, supportive space where students can explore their thoughts and emotions, gain valuable life skills, and cultivate a strong sense of self.

How We Support Our Girls

Helping Girls Prioritize Personal Well-Being

“I love being a school counselor because I get to work in a dynamic environment surrounded by creative, talented, funny, smart, curious, and passionate people,” said Amy Poag.

As Director of Counseling and Upper School Counselor, Poag guides St. Mary’s oldest students through their teenage years, helping them navigate life as an young adult.

Helping Girls Embrace a Positive Mindset

On North Campus, you may hear students use playful expressions like, “Be a palm tree,” “Do you want to bounce?” and “Flip your lid.”

These humorous sayings remind students that when life gets stormy, they can stay flexible and even have a little fun along the way. North Campus Counselor Lauren Mitchell uses these phrases as powerful tools that help girls embrace a positive mindset and navigate challenges with confidence.

Helping Girls Learn to Advocate for Themselves

“I love seeing middle school students develop their confidence, overcome obstacles, become more self-aware, and find their voice as they enter Upper School,” said Andrea Peredo.

As the Middle School Counselor, Peredo says she loves being a resource for girls during a period of such rapid development.
